Ciro, The Baby Dinosaur presented by Dr. Cristiano dal Sasso

Scipionyx Samniticus, affectionately called, Ciro, is a baby dinosaur discovered in Italy in the ’90’s. His fascinating story is considered to be the discovery of the century for the world of Palaeontology. The fossil was in fact unearthed with its internal organs, so called soft tissue, perfectly preserved: a unique event in the history of paleontological digs. For the first time a real palaeo-autopsy was possible on a dinosaur which provided unprecedented knowledge of its life, behaviour and feeding habits.

Cristiano Dal Sasso was born in 1965 and has a degree in Natural Science. Since 1990 he works at the Museum of Natural History in Milan and is responsible for the Laboratory of Palaeontology. He is the coordinator of paleontological digs and an expert in the field of dinosaurs especially those found in Italy. He is the author of numerous popular books as well as scientific articles published in journals such as “Nature” and “Science”.
